Yep, you get some unburnt residue in the barrel, but I'm not using max loads, and I figure that it all blows out with the next shot anyhow.

The only other way I can think of is if you don't mind a little jury rigging, take a gas seal similar to the SP 20 gas seal cut from another wad & build up the wad column with fiber filler wads & use the shot cup on top. Be careful to use the same type of gas seal as the data you go by. The fiber wad should not significantly change the pressure. Fiocchi, Cheddite, Rio, Federal. You can get away with Bismuth in the Rem and Win hulls with the right powder and wads. I personally just shoot 3/4 oz steel in 2 3/4" hulls but that takes Steel powder to get the speed needed.If the SP 20 is a tapered wall wad, it was redesigned as the SP 20 predates the tapered wall hull. They were originally loaded in the fiber based SP hulls. The SP series of wads is primarily designed for the SP hulls, which are predominately straight walled hulls with plastic disc base wads.

SP20's are good substitutes for the WW20F1 but are expensive if you shoot a lot. Try the Windjammer 20. Although the factory lists them as a 7/8oz. wad they work well with 1oz. if you use a low dense, sitting powder like HS6. The Duster orange 20 is a 7/8oz. wad, period. It sits high with about any brand/type powder.

I just went out and tried a 1 oz. load using the DRV20 wad. STS hull and W-209, 17.0 grs, Longshot, (Hodgdon lists from 16.3 to 18.0 using the WAA20F1), and 1 oz. #7-1/2 shot. Had to use a little bit of wad pressure, but it then fit and crimped very nicely. Just need to contact Hodgdon and get their blessing on the load.
