Overall, long blunt and axe will be (in my opinion) your general best bet. As u/Fortune_Silver mentioned, Long blades are strong but rare, and spears have a severe lack of durability for a long time. Short weapon types are generally too weak to serve as anything except a backup weapon, or unless you don't want to damage your strong weapons ...

With short blunt you can only hit like 2 max. Even with a long weapon you still are only able to hit like 3 at a time. Taking on a hoard is still very challenging. You still need zombies to line up correctly to take advantage of multi hit, and that can be a challenge.
